Her hair is curly, dark, and in Afro puffs,
and her skin is brown, but something is strange about this picture…this
woman is definitely not a black woman. This woman has smaller features
that contrast with the definition of a black person with big eyes,
big lips, and, of course, the bigger noses. But there is something
about this painting that makes it very beautiful. This painting serves
as a depiction of Japanese culture in black face. I don’t use
the term “black face” negatively because I see this pointing
as a compliment to black culture rather than having a derogatory connotation.
