2nd Annual Blue Diamond Awards

On Sunday, November 16, 2008 Alumnae and friends of Spelman College from the Midwest honored women from the region who are pioneers in their fields and leaders in their communities. Proceeds from the event provide financial support to Spelman students from the region.

The 2008 Blue Diamond Awards Scholar Krista Anderson C’2010 is a biology major from Grand Rapids, Michigan. “I am very appreciative of the support I have received from the Midwest Students Scholarship Fund, which has helped me pay my expenses for this academic year.”

“I felt a personal calling to help as many students as possible complete their education in light of the current financial crisis,” said Adrienne Lance Lucas, C’90, chief operating officer of Inheritance Capital Group, LLC and event chairperson, “Through this fundraiser, we are building on Spelman’s mission -- providing financial support to young women who have made a choice to change the world.”

Inheritance Capital Group, LLC; Baldwin Richardson Food Co.; Global Hue; KG Group; The Westin of Southfield, Detroit; Mercedes-Benz of St. Clair Shores; and State Farm Insurance sponsored the event.

The Blue Diamond Awards has quickly become a must attend event. The 2008 ceremony was hosted by Actor Morris Chestnut and Detroit media personality Karen Dumas. Onjada Richardson C’90 served as the Honoree Selection Chairperson and Adrienne Lance Lucas C’90 served as the Event Chairperson.
