Alumna, Jamila Hunter C' 96, Named Head of Comedy at ABC

Jamila Hunter Named ABC ExecutiveABC has named Jamila Hunter, C’96, senior vice president and head of the network’s comedy department. In her new position, she will oversee the development and production of all comedy pilots for ABC Entertainment.

“As one of our industry’s most accomplished executives, Jamila has been instrumental in ABC’s comedy resurgence,” Channing Dungey, president of ABC Entertainment, said in an announcement. “She brings a unique perspective to this important role, and I’m thrilled to have her leading our efforts.”

Since joining ABC as vice president of comedy in 2011, Hunter has worked on several successful new projects for the Disney network, including “Black-ish,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” “The Real O’Neals” and “Last Man Standing.” In October 2015, her role expanded to include multi platform comedy development for ABC’s recently revamped app.

Prior to her position at ABC, she was part of the creative team that launched Oprah’s Winfrey’s OWN and was senior vice president of alternative and digital programming at NBC. From 2005 to 2008, she was vice president of comedy development at 20th Century Fox Television.
