The College Celebrates Alumna
Isabella McIntyre Tobin, C'45
On Tuesday, February 9, at 4 p.m., in Sisters Chapel, the Spelman community will pause to celebrate the life, legacy and philanthropic spirit of Isabella McIntyre Tobin, C'45, who passed on January 13.
The New York native attended every major event, and since graduating more than a half century ago, supported a range of campus priorities, including the Initiatives for the ’90s Campaign, scholarship support, Revival of the Spirit: The Campaign to Preserve and Renovate Historic Sisters Chapel, and more.
Mrs. Tobin heard about and
came to Spelman by chance, a transfer student from New
York University. After receiving her sociology degree in 1945, Tobin became a social worker in the Atlanta Public School System and later finished her 38-year career as a high school guidance counselor. She is the widow of Lucius Miles Tobin, a minister, who taught philosophy and religion at both Spelman and Morehouse.
Read more about Mrs. Tobin in the Summer/Fall 2000 issue of the Spelman Messenger.
