Alumnae Profiles: Belinda Johnson White, Ph.D., C'76
Belinda Johnson White, associate professor and management program director in the Department of Business Administration at Morehouse College, holds a B.S. degree from Spelman College; a M.S. degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology; and a Ph.D. from Georgia State University. She has done further study in leadership development at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University; the Institute for Leadership Advancement, Terry College of Business, University of Georgia; and the Salzburg Seminar, Salzburg, Austria.
Dr. White designed and teaches Leadership and Professional Development, a core course in the business program, and is the co-designer of the leadership studies minor. A central component of the LPD course, which began in 1996, is service learning. As a result, approximately 2,700 business students at Morehouse have completed over 50,0000 hours of community service in the metropolitan Atlanta school system. Dr. White’s research interests include effective leadership pedagogy and executive leadership development. She recently published her second book, Leadership and Professional Development: Building 21st Century Global Leaders. She is an avid traveler and has conducted leadership training sessions for Morehouse College students in over 20 countries, including Greece, South Africa, Australia, France, China, Brazil, and Norway.
Dr. White’s service to the College includes her work in the area of faculty development, where she serves as the chair of the College’s Faculty Development Committee and Principal Investigator of the UNCF/Ford Faculty Enhancement Action Grant.
Growing up in Birmingham, Alabama, during the 1960s Civil Rights Era, Belinda witnessed first-hand the positive, transformational effects of courageous, moral, ethical leadership and professional excellence. These defining moments in her early childhood lead to her commitment and dedication to the power of leadership and professional development. She is honored to be part of the College’s century-plus legacy of developing academically strong and socially conscious, global leaders.
Prior to entering higher education in 1993, Dr. White enjoyed a 13-year career in marketing, sales, and training with the IBM Corporation.
