Amna Plummer, Ph.D., C'1995
Dr. Plummer is a veterinarian with her own practice “Critter Care Animal Hospital” in Sugarland Texas. She was born and raised in the Houston area. Her father was a dentist, and her mother a stay-at-home mom. Her father attended Morehouse. Dr. Plummer has two sisters—one, Letitia, is a Spelmanite C’97 and is a dentist. Her brother attended Morehouse for one year then Anitoch.
Dr. Plummer grew up on a farm and around animals—horses, dogs, cats, and cows and her love of animals grew out of this upbringing. From an early age she was interested in health sciences. In pursuit of her dreams, she attended the Debakey High School for Health Profession where she graduated in 1990. In 1995, she graduated from Spelman College, with a BS in Science/Pre-medicine. Prior to graduation she interned at an animal hospital in Houston in the summer. Because of the limited course offerings for Veterinary Medicine at Spelman, she took required courses at a community college in between semesters. After graduation from Spelman, she toured Africa, Europe, Spain, and Mexico. In 2000, she received her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary medicine. While employed at Veterinary Emergency Referral Group, she worked part time at Critter Care Animal hospital.
In 2004, Dr. Plummer purchased CCAH, from the late Katherine Kellner. She is very involved with horses, she participated in barrel races with her quarter horse. She would accompany her grandfather in the Mexico to Texas Trail Ride—which involves riding cutting horses (used to herd cattle). She even got married on a horse—her husband is an attorney whose practice is in Little Rock Arkansas They have a 7 year daughter who is interested in horses, and an 8 year old son who is a gymnast and enjoys running track. Dr. Plummer will be providing an annual scholarship for a pre-vet student, and she would like the student to intern with her for 6 weeks at her animal hospital.
