Alumnae Profile: Farrin Hymon, C'2014
Spelman alumna Farrin Hymon was added to the 2014 "HBCU Top 30 Under 30" list. Hymon is the founding owner of FARRINHEIT Entertainment & Media. A full service company specializing in creative directing, media training, public relations, production, entertainment and media, FARRINHEIT was born out of Hymon's love and passion for entertainment and popular culture.
Hymon's interest in entertainment and music began at a very young age; and although she is a fan of several genres of music, she says her true passion in music and entertainment lies within the world of hip-hop culture.
Growing up with a father who worked as a celebrity bodyguard, Hymon became very knowledgeable about the behind-the-scene nature of the sports and entertainment industries. Bitten by the industry bug, Hymon continued to work along side her father and learn what it would take for her to become an entrepreneur as well.
Hymon's knowledge of the business, the long list of individuals she had come to know, and her background in acting and music, inspired her to become an entertainment blogger while at Spelman. Determined to blaze her own path into entertainment, created FARRINHEIT 411 as a way for her to deliver “the 411” on what is happening in the industry.
When Hymon arrived in Atlanta in 2010 to attend Spelman, she gained experience working in film and event production, event planning, product placement, and public relations. She began blogging in early 2012 as a hobby, and discovered over time, her interest in blogging began to turn into something she really loved doing. It wasn’t until the summer of 2013, however, that she decided to take blogging to the next level and to create FARRINHEIT 411.
