Alumnae Profiles: Aryen Moore-Alston, C'2005
Aryen Moore-Alston has been cooking in front of a camera since she was a child. She would set up her parents’ video camera in the kitchen and conduct her cooking shows. But that was just the beginning. This actress and choreographer grew up in Italy, lived in Japan and speaks Japanese and Italian fluently. She exudes an infectious confidence and energetic personality to all those around her.
Alston graduated from Spelman College, where she served as the first captain of the Spelbots team, and led a team of female scientists who programmed robotic dogs to play soccer without human intervention. During her time at Spelman she also participated in the dance program and spent an entire year studying abroad in Japan.
Alston's fascination with the Italian and Asian cultures and their cuisine has been the best training for this diligent chef. As a busy young woman, juggling work responsibilities, her commitment to healthy eating and an involvement with the entertainment industry, she focuses on creating meals that are flavorful, easy to prepare and ideal for sharing with family and friends.
Aryen Moore-Alston has been selected as a finalist for Food Network’s tenth season of Food Network Star. Culinary icons Alton Brown, Giada De Laurentiis and Bobby Flay will lead the charge to discover the next promising face in food television. The series premieres on Sunday, June 1 at 9pm EST.
