Alumnae Profiles: Alicia Ferriabough Taylor, C'1996

The founder and creative force behind SUKARI is Alicia Ferriabough Taylor. Alicia has had a thing for handbags since she was a little girl; however, her career goals initially moved her in a different direction. The Boston native graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from Spelman College, in Atlanta, then went on to earn her J.D. from Northwestern University School of Law with a  concentration in Entertainment Law. During summer breaks, Alicia switched from legal appeals to high heels, and indulged her passion for fashion as a successful commercial model in New York City. Her modeling career included work with famed photographer Fadil Barisha and with Essence magazine as a fit model for Halle Berry and Tia and Tamera Mowry.

Upon graduation, Alicia relocated to New York where she practiced Entertainment Law.  However, not able to resist the pull of the fashion industry, Alicia took the plunge and launched Sukari in 2007. While she initially found it challenging to enter her handbags into department stores, Sukari bags are now sold in Bergdorf's, Barneys, and Henri Benndel's. Her future plans include expanding into both Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales. Alicia takes great pride in her work and puts endless love and care into every detail of her bags.
