Andrea Evans, C'99
In 2007, Andrea Evans launched The Law Firm of Andrea Hence Evans in after recognizing a need for high quality patent, trademark and copyright legal services. “While working at the United States Patent and Trademark Office as both a patent examiner and trademark examining attorney, I heard heart-wrenching stories from many pro se applicants who were turned away from large law firms because they were considered too small,” said Evans. “I was encouraged by my family, peers and mentors to launch my firm.”
Currently, her firm represents solo inventors, entrepreneurs, small, medium and Fortune 100 clients in multiple states and multiple countries. Evans’ desire to make a greater impact in society and fill a void in the intellectual property legal community has led her to receive the Nation’s Best Advocate of the Year Award from the National Bar Association and IMPACT. She was also honored as one of the Nation’s Best Advocates: 40 Lawyers Under 40.
“I am passionate about educating others about the importance of intellectual property protection, [and] being an entrepreneur affords me the opportunity to feel a sense of accomplishment when I educate and secure patent, trademark, and copyright protection for my clients,” she said. “I am dedicated and persistent because I know I am making a difference in the lives of others. Being an entrepreneur has also given me the ability to spend more time with my husband and our two children.”
In addition to her law firm, Evans founded KidGineer, an educational program that exposes children ages 5 to 10 to science, technology, mathematics and engineering. She graduated from Spelman as a dual-degree major, receiving a bachelor's in mathematics from Spelman and a bachelor's from Georgia Tech in civil engineering. Evans received her juris doctorate from George Washington University.
