Peer Assistant Leaders

The Peer Assistant Leaders (P.A.L.S.) at Spelman serve as group leaders and mentors for new first-year, transfer, international and Pauline E. Drake Scholars. In addition to being a resource for parents and guests, P.A.L.S. provide the first official welcome and assist students with making a successful transition to the Spelman community.  

P.A.L.S. play an important role at the College because they have such a positive impact on future students, and they also develop leadership, communication, and teamwork skills.

  • Christina Pollonais

    My name is Christina Pollonais and I am a sophomore dual degree engineering major from the island of Trinidad. Throughout my first year at Spelman I have always strived to serve my Spelman community in many different ways. I was chosen as the Miss Freshman representative, I participated in the WIE STEM program, and I served my community as a mentor to students at Salem Middle School. My dream is to graduate from Spelman College and work for a company or foundation that helps to promote an eco- friendly living community worldwide.

  • Jasmyn Howell

    Hello! My name is Jasmyn Howell and I am excited to be a PAL for the class of 2017. I am a sophomore economics major interested in investment banking and consulting. After gaining some work experience, I plan on attending business school and starting my own consulting firm. During my freshman year, I was involved in numerous activities ranging from the Spelman Economics Club, Morehouse Business Association, Community Leadership Council for LLC1, and MINiSKIRTS. I also served as co- captain for the Spelman tennis team. I look forward to getting to know all of you during NSO and throughout your freshman year!

    My name is London Arnold. I am a rising sophomore at Spelman College, originally from Memphis, Tn. I am an International Studies major, with a minor in Spanish. I plan on pursuing a career in foreign affairs. My ultimate goal is to become a foreign affairs officer and establish my own non-profit organization. I love meeting new people and assisting others.     My name is Andrenise DeAun Faust. I am a military brat who has lived in 4 different states. I have spent most of my life in Houston, Texas. Here at Spelman, I am involved in an array of things. I have been featured in fashion shows and I have participated in fundraising events.

    I am an advocate for peace, so I volunteer for the organization Peace and Love AUC. I am majoring in Biochemistry, so I work with my mentor in a green organic research lab. When I graduate in 2016, I plan to move on to medical school in hopes to become a renowned Obstetrician Gynecologist.

    Edward Everett Hale once said, “I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.” My goal in life is not to become rich or famous, but to simply make a difference. Reading, shopping, spending time with family, and traveling are things I love to do. I am Anna Johnson, a rising sophomore at Spelman College.

    I am a biochemistry major from Lake View, SC. My ultimate goal in life is to become a pharmacist and eventually open my own school. I am involved in multiple organizations on campus such as the Spelman College Society of Pre-Pharmacy Professionals, Morehouse Gospel Choir, and Health Careers Club.

    Asia E. Goode is a Junior Early Childhood Education major from Washington, D.C. Asia is a 2011 Bill and Melinda Gates Millennium Scholar. In the past, she participated in the Sister2Sister Alumnae-Student Mentoring Program and LEADS Walmart First-Generation Scholars Program. Currently, she serves as an Gates Millennium Scholar Ambassador and a mentor for Emergination Africa, where Spelman and Morehouse students are chosen to mentor students in Zimbabwe.

  • Bianca Monet' Parrish

    Hello, my name is Bianca Monet' Parrish, a freshmen International Studies major double minor in Spanish and Management and Organization from Baltimore, Maryland. As a freshman, I have been involved in various extracurricular activities and community service involvement both on and off campus.

    On campus, I am a member of Students in Free Enterprise, economics club, and Spanish club. This semester I also participated in Freshmen Reaching Excellence with Spelman’s Help (FRESH). Off campus, I have been involved in a few fashion shows including the junior and freshmen week fashion show. I also had the honor of being chosen to attend an SGA sponsored trip to Washington DC called “Day at the Capital” where I had the pleasure of shadowing congressmen and women around capital as well as shadowing Spelman alumnae that live in the Washington DC area or those that work on the Hill. During my first year at Spelman, I have also participated in many public service activities such as the AIDS Walk Atlanta that took place in fall 2012, St. Jude’s writing letter campaign, the National Wildlife Federation Climate Rally, Operation P.E.A.C.E., and Spelman’s Founder’s Day Walk around the West End community. I

     also was honored to receive a scholarship from the NAASC for the Columbia, Maryland chapter where I currently reside. Although only a freshmen, I have also considered my major as it relates to my career goals. I plan to graduate Spelman College Class of 2016 magma cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in international studies. After College, I plan to get my masters in international business which would give me the opportunity to be involved in business abroad as well as business in the United States of America as I hope to one day be a business consultant or a fashion consultant.

    Brandy Hayes is a full time student at Spelman College.  She grew up in Chino Hills California and has a great passion for working hard and helping people.  Brandy is majoring in Economics and minoring in Management and Organization. After graduation she plans to obtain a MBA while working in Marketing or Public Relations until she is able to create her own business.  Brandy Hayes is a freethinking woman and hopes to change the world.

  • Breagan Ricks

    Breagan Ricks is a sophomore Biology major at Spelman College from Memphis, TN and a member of the Spelman Health Careers Program, Alpha Lambda Delta First Year Honor Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Every week, Breagan volunteers at M. Agnes Jones Elementary School, where she tutors and mentors students in grades 3-5.

    During her freshman year, Breagan merged her love for science with her passion for community service and founded a non-profit organization entitled the FunLab, Inc., which is teach minority children basic scientific concepts through fun laboratory experiments. As, a PAL, Breagan is excited to explore exemplary leadership with her peers in addition to serving as an approachable and positive role model for her incoming Spelman sisters. Upon graduating from Spelman, Breagan aspires to become a pediatric oncologist and provide quality health care to children with cancer.

    My name is Brianna Lynn Hill, from Philadelphia Pennsylvania. I am a rising sophomore of the class of 2016; Psychology major, Child Development minor.
  • Brittany Pruitt

    Brittany Pruitt is a senior from Alexandria, VA majoring in International Studies with a minor in Environmental Health. She is actively involved in serving the Atlanta community as the president of the Atlanta University Center Chapter of Circle K International. Brittany has volunteered with Trees Atlanta, Raising Expectations youth mentoring program, The Atlanta Community Food Bank and many other projects.

    She spent last year exploring her interests in combating global public and environmental health issues by participating in the Washington Semester Program at American University and studying abroad in Ghana where she interned with the West Africa AIDS Foundation.

    My name is Eilidh Branson. I am a sophomore Sociology major with a pre-law concentration. I am interested in Social work and researching race relations aside from a career in law. I was born and raised on the island of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. I relocated to Georgia at the age of 15 and have been living here since then.     Israel R. Pate, C’2014, is currently a Sociology major at Spelman College with a concentration in Anthropology, Chinese and Comparative Women Studies. She is a native of Capitol Heights, Maryland. An active member of many campus organizations, Israel focuses most of her time as the Secretary in the Chinese Culture Club as well as serving on the Executive Board of the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance (FMLA). Her aspirations following her matriculation at Spelman College include teaching English in Shenzhen, China for one year then pursuing a PhD in Anthropology and participating in life-long activism and social justice.

    Hello my name is Jade Warfield, and I am a rising sophomore, biology major from Houston Texas. I am the oldest of four children and after attending Spelman College I hope to be accepted into Meharry Medical College where I will continue my matriculation toward my dream occupation of becoming an emergency medicine physician.  My hobbies are singing, dancing, traveling, shopping, and having a good time.     My name is Jessica Turner. I am a rising senior from Decatur, GA majoring in Psychology and a third- year Peer Assistant Leader. I aspire to be a school psychologist to help counsel students with learning disabilities. I currently serve on the Executive Board of the Spelman College Student Ambassador Program and as the Troop Coordinator for Girl Scout Troop 1368.

    I am looking forward to New Student Orientation because it reminds me of why I chose Spelman- for its Tradition, Service, and Sisterhood. I think all incoming students will enjoy New Student Orientation because it is a great opportunity to get acclimated with campus, their expectations, and how to make the most of their Spelman experience.

I am a Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership conference (HOBY) Alumni, which I attended this summer as a Junior Counselor for the second year. I was on the Spelman Mock Trial completion team last year. I love giving back to the community, which is why service is a significant part of my life.

  • Marli Crowe

    Marli Crowe is a Sophomore Psychology Major, Spanish Minor with a Pre-Law Concentration from Phoenix, AZ. Marli's freshman year, she stayed in LLC1 (DiiiiiLamda!). She is in the Honors Program and also got involved with National Council of Negro Women, as well as First Year Class Council (FYCC). In FYCC, Marli served as the Co-Social Chair planning all the events for the Freshman class. Marli was re-elected as Co-Social Chair for Sophomore Class Council. Marli hopes to be a powerful attorney and her ultimate dream would be to become the next Nancy Grace. As a PAL, Marli plans to help the class of 2017 have a smooth transition into the Spelman lifestyle. She hopes to be the big sister she never was to all her new, little Spelman sisters.

  • Megan Jones

    Megan Jones is currently a junior at Spelman College from Chicago, Illinois. In May of 2014, she will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree, with a focus in Psychology. She also will advance with a music minor concentrating in classical voice.  Ms. Jones has completed over 1,500 community service hours as a Bonner Scholar working closely with education and human rights. She is the stage Manager of the Spelman College Glee Club, publicity chair of the Miss Spelman Advisory Board, and member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. She is also the co-creator of the girls mentoring group Sisters.Inspiring.Striving, based in Homewood, Il.

    Alongside the Glee Club, Jones has performed at the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and with artist such as Stevie Wonder, Yo-Yo Ma, Cassie Davis and Jennifer Holiday. She is currently interning with BE Magazine where she is the assistant to the head music recruiter. Over all, she plans to become a music therapist specialized to treat autistic children. She looks forward to also becoming a philanthropist advocating for human rights.

    My name is Michaela Jones. I am member of the class of 2016. I am a Psychology major on a Pre-Law track from Carson (via Los Angeles), California. I have also lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I am the only child but I have 2 god brothers and god sisters. I am very family orientated, God fearing, and goal orientated.     My name is Randee Howard,  and I am a sophomore Sociology major at Spelman College from Chicago, IL. During my junior year of high school I was introduced to this lovely institution on a college tour and ever since I knew that Spelman College was for me.

    Once I arrived I quickly became involved on campus by joining numerous organizations and extra-curricular activities such as the Health Careers Program, Global-I, National Society of Leadership and Success, NAACP and the step and stroll teams. I wanted to become a Peer Assistant Leader (PAL) because my passion is helping others in whatever way I can because I enjoy doing small deeds that leave a bigger impact on someone’s life. As an incoming freshman your adjustment to college is a major step in your life, and it is my job to ensure that you have support during this transition.

    My name is Sanura Dewa, I am a first year Dual Degree Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering Major from Burtonsville, Maryland. I am involved on campus in various clubs including: Residence Hall Association (RHA), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Environmental Task Force (ETF), and Society of Women Engineers (SWE). On my free time I enjoy reading a good novel and I also like to volunteer in STEM related outreach programs for middle and high school students.

  • Sasha Gambrah

    My name is Sasha Gambrah, and I am a first year Biology major here at Spelman College. I was born in Los Angeles, California on September 25; however, my family is from Ghana, West Africa.  I have lived in 9 countries and have been to 7 different schools in my lifetime.

    I am the youngest of six children; three boys, and three girls total. Here on campus, I am involved in a fair amount of extra curricular activities. I am apart of one of the freshman dorm stroll teams, African Student Association, Morehouse Business Association, and I recently just became apart of Spelman Glee club, as well as the Jumpstart Program as one of their Corps members. I hope to graduate from Spelman and move on to medical school.

    Tanesha Slocumb is a senior, Biology major from Atlanta, GA. After participating in a Pharmacy Technician certification program through the Atlanta Mayor’s Youth Program, she became interested in the world of Pharmacy and decided to change her concentration from Pre-Med to Pre-Pharmacy. An avid volunteer both on and off campus, Tanesha has volunteered as a shadow of the Office of Alumnae Affairs for the 2012 and 2013 Reunion/Senior Week and Commencement.

    Hello my Spelman sisters! My name is Taylor Cobb. I was born in Charlotte, NC and raised in the metro Atlanta area (Duluth, GA) were I attended Collins Hill high school and graduated from Peachtree Ridge. I am a rising sophomore, Economics major. I lived in Abby Hall my freshman year where I served as the president through the Residents Hall Association. I am a student ambassador and served as the treasurer of the Pre-dental Association. I love to play basketball, photography and volunteering. I look forward to seeing all of you in the fall.

    My name is Taylor Paige Dawson. I am a Sophomore Psychology Major with a minor in Spanish at Spelman College. I love to sing, dance, speak Spanish, create things, and think. I always put my best foot forward and I am committed to excellence. In the future, I plan to be a bilingual Clinical Military Psychologist and have my own private practice.

    My name is Tonia Iwule and I am a senior from Savannah, Ga. I am majoring in biology and plan to enter medical school next fall to one day become a dermatologist. When I was a freshman I lived in HH on the second floor. At Spelman I am president of the NAACP and I am a charter member for the new student organization Active Minds. Last summer I studied abroad at the University of the West Indies in St. Augustine,Trinidad with Spelman's history department and it was truly one of my favorites experiences. This is my third year being a Peer Assistant Leader and am I am very excited to meet the ladies of 2017!
