Educational Media

Special Technical Assistance

Educational Media can:

  • provide consultation on equipment selection purchase and installation
  • set up specialized equipment
  • order commercial services and equipment repair
  • produce special audio visual materials, special events and provide conference media coordination.

Reservation and Cancellation

An equipment Request Form must be completed, signed, and received in the Media Center to formally reserve a piece of equipment. Telephone requests and personal appeals do not actually reserve equipment nor book service. Equipment not picked up by the scheduled use time will be released on a first come first served basis. A minimum of 48 hours notice is required for regular classroom A/V equipment services. Special programs and events should not be scheduled through Lotus Notes. Please visit the Media Center to arrange for services and equipment utilization. All requests made with less than 48 hours notice must be done in the Media Center.

Training

The media center staff will provide orientation sessions and training workshops upon your request and based on availability of staff for individuals, groups, and departments.

Media Retrieval

The Spelman College Media Retrieval System allows for playback of a wide variety of media sources that originate from the media center to multiple rooms in the Cosby Academic Center and Giles Hall. Total campus distribution of signals should be possible in the near future. The media retrieval system used is the Dynacom System. This system allows for the playback of videotape, laserdisk, compact disk interactive, still video (digital photos stored on disk), slide projection, and satellite reception.

Faculty and staff wishing to use the Dynacom System for classroom and other presentation requirements are required to participate in a one time mandatory training prior to first-time use. The Dynacom System is programmed in advance by the Media Center staff; therefore Requests Forms must be in the Media Center at least 24 hours before the scheduled playback time. However, videotapes may be delivered within 2 hours of the scheduled playback time. Short notice requests will be accommodated on an "as available" basis.
