Human Resources
Compensation Administration Overview
Spelman College maintains a formal salary administration
program for its staff members to promote internal pay equity
and external competitiveness. The program is designed to
attract, motivate and retain competent and productive employees.
The
cornerstone
of
the
salary
administration
system
at
Spelman
is
the
job
description.
The
job
description
forms
the
basis
for
determining
the
relative
value
of
one
job
compared
to
another,
and
it
is
used
to
evaluate
each
job.
After
a job
evaluation
process
is
completed,
salary
ranges
are
established
based
on
internal
equity
and
external
market
comparison
with
rates
paid
for
similar
position
in
the
community
and
nationwide.
Progression
through
the
salary
ranges
for
the
job
held
will
depend
on
several
factors,
including
the
level
of
the
employee’s
performance
and
the
funds
available
from
the
College
for
salary
increases.
