OPEN TO SOPHOMORES ONLY

Spelman College typically applies student financial aid and scholarships toward fall and spring semester study abroad programs that have been selected from our List of Approved Study Abroad Programs at Spelman College. The Spelman Abroad Office manages a set of merit-based Spelman Study Abroad scholarships as well as the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship and Boren Scholarship.

Spelman Study Abroad Scholarships

These scholarships provide Spelman students with an opportunity for study in a foreign setting at a university-level program. These scholarships are only open to Sophomores intending to study abroad during their Junior year.

ELIGIBILITY & CRITERIA
  • Sophomore standing
  • A minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average
  • Clear judiciary standing with Spelman College
  • Good citizenship on campus and the community
  • Scholarship award can only be used for a semester or year of study for credit to be applied toward the completion of requirements for graduation
  • Submit online Spelman College Study Abroad Scholarship Application and supporting documents 
  • Contact the Study Abroad Office at 404-270-INTL (4685) to schedule an interview with Study Abroad Scholarship Committee

Additional expectations

  • Award recipients are expected to return to Campus for at least one semester after her study abroad
  • Award recipients are expected to share her experiences abroad with her fellow students at Campus events
