Apply to G-STEM
G-STEM applications are accepted for three application periods: Summer, fall and spring. Deadlines may vary.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Meet or exceed minimal GPA requirement (3.0)
- Be a full-time Spelman student with a minimum of two semesters of college credits (Sophomore or Junior standing). Seniors are not eligible for application to the G-STEM program
- Major in a STEM discipline: Biology, Chemistry, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Dual-Degree Engineering or Environmental Science and Studies
- Able to communicate in the language of the country of travel
- Proof of U.S. passport and necessary visa(s) to travel
- Meet with G-STEM program manager to determine eligibility to receive a G-STEM Preliminary Application for review and approval by the student’s department chair
Application Process:
Admission into the G-STEM Program as a G-STEM Scholar is a competitive process. Students must demonstrate maturity and the ability to complete the following steps for consideration:
- Visit the G-STEM office in Science Center 342, and meet with the G-STEM Program Manager to determine eligibility into the G-STEM Program
- Students considered qualified for the G-STEM Program will be given access to the online G-STEM Preliminary Application for review by their department chair
- Receipt of the G-STEM Preliminary Application with the Department Chair’s authorization allows the applicant to receive a G-STEM program application
- Only students whose G-STEM Preliminary Application has been approved by their department chair will receive access to the online G-STEM Program Application
- Submit the following information via the online G-STEM Application by the program deadline:
- G-STEM program application
- Statement of purpose
- Two letters of recommendation from a science faculty
- Copy of college transcript
- Copy of CV or resume
- Proof of U.S. passport
Incomplete and late applications WILL NOT be considered
The G-STEM Internal Advisory Committee makes the final determination on student admission into the G-STEM Program as a G-STEM Scholar, and their decision is communicated to the applicant via e-mail.
