Unislawa Wszolek-Williams is assistant professor at the department of Political Science at Spelman College. She was born in Bielsko-Biala, Poland and completed her B.A. in public policy with specialization in economic at the University of Chicago, where she also earned her M.A. She has received her Ph.D. degree from the Ohio State University with specializations in international relations and methods.
Dr. Wszolek-Williams’ research and publication interests lie in the area of security studies and methodology. She is interested in question of deterrence and crisis signaling, focusing on the game theoretic and statistical approaches to these problems. Her dissertation has examined the relative effectiveness of inducements, or carrots, versus threats, or sticks, in pre-conflict negotiations.
At Spelman, Dr. Wszolek-Williams teaches primarily methods related courses, including data analysis and methods, and the senior seminar. Her teaching philosophy stresses multiple varied approaches to presenting quantitative material and student participation through discussion and presentations.
Dr. Wszolek-Williams is a member of the American Political Science Association and the Midwest Political Science Association. She is also a recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, including multiple Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships.
