Political Science
Pi Sigma Alpha, Departmental Honor Society
The Pi Sigma Alpha National Political Honor Society is
open to juniors and seniors who have earned at least a
3.3 overall grade-point average and have taken at least
four political science course.
Pi Sigma Alpha is the national political science honor
society, and the Gamma Lambda chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha
was established in the Atlanta University in 1956. The
objectives of the organization are to promote extracurricular
activities related to public affairs and to promote student
interest in political science. Students are inducted into
Pi Sigma Alpha in a ceremony that takes place in April.
Membership in the organization is open to political science
majors and minors who meet the following criteria. Students
must have:
- taken
at least
four
political
science
courses
- a
3.3 or
better
cumulative
average
- a
3.3 or
better
average
in political
science
courses
- no
grade
less
than “B” in
major
courses

Political Science Society
The Political Science Society was chartered as an official
Spelman organization in November 1967. Membership is open
to all majors and minors who wish to have extracurricular
experiences, including leadership opportunities. Other
interested individuals may hold associate status. The Political
Science Society holds regular meetings and facilitates
a number of forums and workshops each semester, including
sessions on graduate and law school preparation and careers
in Political Science. The Society also participates in
community service projects, such as tutoring and mentoring
activities with elementary, middle and high school students.
