Music
It's a holiday tradition you don’t want to miss! The 83rd annual Morehouse-Spelman Christmas Carol concert will, again, kickoff the Christmas season for metro Atlanta residents. Mark your calendars Dec. 4-6, and join the glee clubs for some Christmas cheer. Each show begins at 8 p.m. and is free and open to the public; however, a complimentary ticket will be required for the Saturday, Dec. 5, performance at Sisters Chapel.
To reserve your free ticket, go to the Ticket Alternative Web site or call (877) 725-8849. Due to the limited number of tickets (two per person), seating will be available on a first come, first served basis. Overflow venues include Cosby Auditorium, Living Learning Center II Auditorium, and the Science Center auditorium. Ticketed attendees are asked to arrive and be in their seats by 7:45 p.m. The kick-off performance begins Friday, Dec. 4, at the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel on Morehouse's campus, followed by the performance at Sisters Chapel. The final performance will be held Sunday, Dec. 6, at King Chapel. This year, the performance will be broadcast on Georgia Public Broadcasting; the Gospel Music Channel; and on WATL on Christmas Eve and WXIA on Christmas day.

The Music Department
The Spelman College music department is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music, the accrediting body for music programs in higher education. The department has active chapters of Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, and Sigma Alpha Iota International Music Fraternity for Women.
Since the early days of Spelman College, music has played an integral part in the lives of the students. Provisions have always been made for students to cultivate their interests and talents in vocal and instrumental music. More importantly, an academic music program has existed at Spelman since the turn of the century.
Today, the Spelman College music department offers a strong, diverse, academic program maintained around the principles of excellence and relevance, and leading to a Bachelor of Arts degree in music. The program is designed to provide students with the basic skills common to all musicians. It is also designed to give students a strong foundation for graduate study leading to a career in music.
The music department offers students the opportunity to pursue a double major including music, or the option of a minor in music.
Through its performing ensembles, its general music courses open to all students, and its series of concerts for the whole community, the music department plays an integral role in the life of the College.
