About Spelman's Math Department
The primary goal of the mathematics department is to teach students to do logical and critical thinking. Strong support courses are provided for students in fields such as the natural, engineering, and social sciences, which rely substantially on mathematics and computing skills. Furthermore, the departmental programs and activities provide opportunities for academic excellence, intellectual development and a quality liberal arts education.
Major Requirements
The major in mathematics consists of 46 hours in mathematics above the 100 level. The Bachelor of Arts degree will be awarded in this major with 46 hours. The Bachelor of Science degree will be awarded with an additional 8 credits, beyond the core requirements, in one science or economics in the major sequence.
