From the Spelman College Connection: Dr. Leyte Winfield Honored for Work in Cancer Research
Leyte Winfield, Ph.D., associate professor of chemistry, has been named a 2011 AACR Minority-Serving Institution Faculty Scholar in Cancer Research Awardee for her work toward molecules that inhibit the growth of breast and prostate cancer cells.
The award aims to increase the scientific knowledge base of faculty members at minority-serving institutions, and to encourage them and their students to pursue careers in cancer research. Presented by the American Association for Cancer Research, the award is given to scientists at the assistant professor level or above at minority-serving institutions who are engaged in meritorious basic, clinical, or translational cancer research.

Research Interest
Our group is primarily interested in the synthesis and the structure-structure activity relationship of compounds that are potentially active against cancer and inflammation.
