Howard Hughes Program

New, Current and Future Faculty Development

Your browser may not support display of this image.Each new faculty member expands disciplinary dimensions in the department in areas not previously represented, expand department breadth and contribute to the emerging interdisciplinary focus on campus.

Microbiology is an area not currently represented in the department and will be area of expertise of the newest faculty position in the department. New areas of research have emerged in systems of dynamics of microbial communities, genomics and phylogeny of microorganisms and infectious disease.  This new faculty appointment will expand course offerings for our majors’ curriculum and establish a novel research presence in an emerging area. 

The Howard Hughes Program provides professional development opportunities for biology faculty to develop research and curricular expertise relevant to our program offering. 

Faculty will receive support to attend conferences and workshops that will allow them to incorporate innovative teaching and evaluation strategies into our curriculum.
