As an expert in program evaluation and institutional effectiveness, Dr. Burnett will lead the office. She has led faculty in developing student learning outcomes in her roles as chair of the Psychology Department, and later, as Vice Provost.For over 10 years, Dr. Burnett has promoted adoption of practices that promote institutional effectiveness throughout the College, with particular attention to Academic Affairs.

In her new role as vice president for Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness, she will be to continue this work through her service as the Spelman College Accreditation Liaison for our regional accreditor, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Venetta Coleman, Ph.D., C'88

Dr. Coleman is an industrial/organizational psychologist with expertise in organizational strategy, performance measurement, and improving organizational effectiveness and maximizing individual development and productivity through critical analysis, developing and simplifying procedures, and creative problem solving. Prior to joining Spelman, she spent 13 years working for leading consulting firms, Fortune 100 corporations, and one of the nation’s largest non-profit organizations.  

Since joining Spelman in 2010, Dr. Coleman has worked with departments each year to develop curriculum maps to articulate intended learning goals and levels of student performance for each major. She has also conducted frequent faculty workshops on development and assessment of student learning outcomes for various disciplines. She also played a critical role in reestablishing the Education Department’s state and national accreditation. Currently, her primary responsibility is to support the reporting process for regional accreditation with SACSCOC and teacher certification through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP, formerly NCATE).

Jill Triplett

Jill Triplett has a eight-year history as director of Institutional Research at Spelman and a longer history of steadily increasing responsibility in the area of institutional research.

She led the College in moving to online course evaluations, and led her office in major enhancements to the annual Fact Book, a pocket Quick Facts booklet, and profiles of each department. She has begun training to serve as the data steward for evaluating the forthcoming strategic plan.

Director, Student Success Program

Francesina (Fran) Jackson, Ph.D. 

Francesina Jackson
Dr. Jackson assumed leadership of the College’s Student Success initiatives in 2014. With background as a professor of education, Dr. Jackson brings a history of involvement in student performance enhancement.

In addition to general oversight of Student Success, she serves as principal investigator on the First in the World Project, which studies the impact of metacognitive training on student performance.

Dianne Whyte is a 10-year veteran in administrative support at Spelman. In her current role as senior administrative assistant in the Office of the Provost, she is responsible for budget tracking, event planning, requisition processing, and supervision of student workers, among other duties.

In her new role, she will provide support to the Office of Institutional Effectiveness by coordinating programmatic activities among constituent groups, monitoring the College Achievements database and serving as liaison with the Communications regarding publication initiatives; preparing pre-publication documents for review; and other responsibilities related to effective functioning of the office.
