Programs
Other approved programs are added on an ad hoc basis
after
the Study Abroad Committee and the Curriculum Committee
of the College have examined them.
Spelman has a summer
program
that runs jointly with Morehouse College. Each year
there is a month-long summer program in Oaxaca, Mexico,
which is run by the Spanish departments of the two schools.
Students live with Mexican families and study language
in Oaxaca. In addition there are Costa Rica summer programs
in Martinique and the Dominican Republic, also lasting
one month. More information on these programs is available
from the Spelman College Department of Modern Foreign
Languages. Spelman College students have participated
in Crossroads Africa for many years. This program is
run out of the College Minister's Office. Spelman students
participate in Bard College's Summer International Human
Rights Exchange in South Africa. We also have the Summer
Art Colony in Portobelo, Panama for studio arts and
creative writing. A new program at the University of
the West Indies, St. Augustine campus is planned for
2004. Catalogs and other information on both summer
study abroad and semester and year programs can be viewed
at the Study Abroad Office.
