City of Atlanta/Women in Technology Month

SpelBots  hosted SpelBots Day" at Atlanta City Hall in March. SpelBots also collaborated with Spelman's STEM Outreach Program, the Atlanta Science Festival and The City of Atlanta on additional events held in conjunction with Women in Technology Month.

Saturday, March 22

The Spelman College SpelBots robotics team kicked off recognition of its 10th anniversary with SpelBots Day on March 22. SpelBots Day, held in partnership with the Atlanta Science Festival,was aimed at students in grades K-12 and their parents.  The event offered the next generation of scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and leaders an opportunity to experience first-hand the excitement of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

The day’s activities included an interactive demonstration with NXT and NAO humanoid robots and breakout sessions with hands-on activities and a Q&A with the SpelBots. There was also a live programming demonstration of a self-driving robotic car.

Atlanta Women Advancing Science and Technology

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Spelman College hosted a panel discussion about the contributions of women to the fields of science and engineering. Panelists included the co-founders of Techturized, Candace Mitchell and Chanel Martin; Jazette Johnson, co-captain of the SpelBots; Noreen Raines, founder of Big Thinkers Science Exploration; and Cynthia Parks, founding partner of Parks IP Law.

SpelBots Invitational/Georgia Tech for GIRLS

SpelBots conducted five robotics presentations and programming workshops for 300 African-American middle school females at Georgia Tech.
