Geek Week

Important Program Update

Due to factors beyond our control which will impact the overall event quality, it is with regret that the Computer and Information Sciences Department issues a cancellation notice of Geek Week 2017 scheduled for October 20 - 27, 2017. We anticipate that Geek Week activities will return for Fall 2018.

For individuals who are unfamiliar with Geek Week, below is the Geek Week 2016 schedule, displaying a diverse set of organizations and slate of sessions for the community.

NBC Universal Lunch Session

Office hours will be held during this session to meet with students to discuss current and future internships and career opportunities.

Tuesday, Nov. 1 | Ernst & Young

Technology Helping to Build a Better Working World
5 - 7 p.m. | Science Center 232

This session will explore Ernst & Young as a firm and the different opportunities available in their IT Services Group.  We will explore the latest technology trends in use throughout the firm with guest speaker Yolanda Davis.

An overview of Accenture & how technical majors in college translate to a career at Accenture with guest speakers Marissa Tuck and Andrea Thomas. 

Problem Solving 101

Problem Solving is a crucial skill to master.  Come learn more about solving complex problems and put your skills to the test with Google representatives Alanna Mobley and Corey Howard.

IBM Mock Case Study Presentation
12 - 1 p.m. | Tapley 227
IBM will take students through the purpose and overview of a case study interview.  This interactive & informative session gives students insight into the case study method & practice an actual case prompt with IBMers and Spelman Alumnae, Taqiyya Thomas and Charniece Huff.

Friday, November 4: General Motors & CIS Game Night

You are Made for More

General Motors Information Technology representatives will provide an overview of the company and their new Made for More campaign to attract students in STEM fields for entry-level and internship opportunities at one of their four IT locations.  A special presentation will be made by a recent college hire about her experience with General Motors IT.
