December 2016

Yassin JeilaniYassin Jeilani, Ph.D., assistant professor of chemistry and biochemistry, has been awarded a $100,000 faculty grant from Apple to enhance instruction and to prepare talented science, technology, engineering and mathematics students for the workforce.

Jeilani’s project was one of only five grants awarded out of the 124 proposals submitted from faculty at 36 private and public colleges and universities. The award will fund his project, “Transforming STEM Faculty Talent ...,” which will focus on integrating advanced instructional technology. The data from his educational and computational research will provide assessments for using 3D visualizations in enhancing learning in STEM courses.

The grant is part of Apple’s initiative with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, which aims to increase diversity and expand the technical talent pool by providing scholarship and internship opportunities to students at historically Black colleges and universities.
