Alisa Holley Young
Alisa Young has been a part-time Instructor/Lecturer in the ESSP at Spelman College for over five years. Her area of expertise is in Environmental Satellite Remote Sensing. Using remotely sensed observations she evaluates essential climate variables including cloud properties, surface temperature, precipitation, etc. to better understand climate variability and change. Other investigations also include the influence of strong storms in the tropics and how they impact stratospheric and tropospheric exchange.
Dr. Young received her P.h.D in Earth and Atmospheric Science from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2011, Masters of Science in Atmospheric Science from the University of Alabama at Huntsville, and Bachelors of Art in Physics from Talladega College. Dr. Young also works for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) National Climatic Data Center as a remote sensing scientist and subject matter expert for Climate Data Records. Outside her commitments as a scientist, Dr. Young enjoys playing basketball, helping youth achieve their scholastic and academic goals, cooking, and edifying Christ. Dr. Young is a strong advocate of community and service based organizations and is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. She lives in southwest Atlanta, is married to Alphanso Young, and has two children, Reagan and Alphanso Jr.
