Abayomi Ola, Ph.D.






















Abayomi Ola is assistant professor in the department of art and art history. He teaches general and African art history courses. His scholarly interests include visual satires of power in Africa and the African Diaspora. Ola holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in art history respectively from the University of Iowa and the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and a B.A. in fine arts from the University of Ife, Ile-Ife, Nigeria.  A British Chevening Scholar, Ola has received several honors and awards including the Akademie Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart) Fellowship, and The Richard Horovitz Professional Development Fund Fellowship, Institute of International Education. He has published essays in encyclopedia and as book chapters, and his most recent work is a book titled Satires of Power in Yoruba Visual Culture (Durham: Carolina Academic Press, 2013).
