Principal activities in the program are:

Festival -
The
annual
Cherry
Blossom
Festival
aims
to
promote
interest
in
Japan
and
enhance
the
Japan
Studies
Program
at
Spelman
through
the "hands
on" learning
of
Japanese
culture
- Participation
in
the
Japanese
Speech
Competition
of
Georgia
- The
Japan
Studies
Program
endorses
the
Georgia
Japanese
Speech
Contest
co-sponsored
by
the
Japan-America
Society
of
Georgia
and
the
Consulate
General
of
Japan.
All
students
who
are
learning
the
Japanese
language
are
encouraged
to
participate.
The
contest
offers
students
an
opportunity
to
test
their
public
speech
skills
in
Japanese,
and
promotes
cross-cultural
exchange
between
Japan
and
the
U.S.
- JET
(Japan
Exchange
and
Teaching)
Program under
the
auspices
of
the
Japanese
government -
The
Japan
Studies
Program
endorses
the
Japanese
government-sponsored
JET
program
and
assists
senior
students
who
seek
opportunities
to
live,
work
or
teach
in
Japan.
In
concert
with
the
Consulate
General
of
Japan,
Atlanta,
the
Japan
Studies
Program
distributes
information
and
provides
an
orientation
meeting
and
training
session
for
the
Atlanta
University
Center
- Internship
programs
with
the
Japanese
business
community
in
Atlanta -
The
Japan
Studies
Program
promotes
experiential
learning
and
actively
seeks
internship
opportunities
in
Atlanta
as
well
as
in
Japan
- Guest
speakers – Various
individuals
are
often
invited
to
campus
to
speak
to
students
about
topics
of
interest
- Monthly Japanese film presentations – Students
are exposed
to a
variety of films to increase appreciation of Japanese
