Sisters Chapel (404) 270-5728:

In light of our efforts to provide spiritual solace to members of the Spelman community affected by Hurricane Katrina, the Sisters Chapel Prayer Room (lower level of the chapel) will remain open through the holiday weekend. Students should feel free to use this space to meditate and pray as a way to cope with the recent events. Chapel service will be held on Sunday, Sept. 4 at 10 a.m. There will also be an opportunity for fellowship from noon to 2 p.m. Rev. Lisa Rhodes can be reached at (404) 270-5728.

Counseling Services (404) 270-5293 or 5288, (678) 640-8986:

We are mindful that many of us may have family and friends who have become survivors of the hurricane. The Counseling Services Department is here to help. Students in need of counseling may make an appointment by calling (404) 270-5293. Appointments can be made in person at the MacVicar Health and Wellness Center. Counseling Services are available from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. daily. Our on-call counselor who can be reached at (678) 640-8986 provides after-hours and evening services.

Through the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), Spelman faculty and staff may receive confidential access to professional counseling services in addressing family, emotional or financial difficulties resulting from Hurricane Katrina. An EAP counselor can be reached at (800) 888-CARE (2273).

Institutional Advancement: Spelman College Hurricane Katrina Emergency Scholarship Fund (404) 270-5042:

Psalm 46:1-3 (King James Version )

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
