Board of Trustees Elects Three New Members

The Spelman College Board of Trustees elected entrepreneur and private equity investor Tom Castro and technology executive Cynthia Jackson, C’81, as new members at its annual meeting recently held on campus. The board also selected dedicated volunteer Mary Lynne Diggs, C’77, as alumna trustee.

Mr. Castro, the founder of El Dorado Capital, LLC, a private equity investment firm, has served as its president and chief executive officer since December 2008. He is also the founder of IMB Development Corp., a private equity investment firm, and has served as its managing director since January 2012.

Previously, he was the co-founder, CEO and vice chairman of Border Media Partners LLC, a radio broadcasting company that primarily targeted Hispanic listeners. Prior to that, Mr. Castro, an entrepreneur, owned and operated other radio stations and founded a company that exported oil field equipment to Mexico.


Ms. Jackson is the president of B2B Workforce, a Randstad Company.  As president of B2B, Ms. Jackson manages the sales efforts for the public sector practice. In addition, she oversees the company's key functions including recruiting, marketing, technology, human resources as well as the operational support department.

Throughout her career with the company, she has held multiple roles including Deputy COO, COO, and vice president Operations. Ms. Jackson has been instrumental in helping B2B grow their Federal.  Ms. Jackson has also managed B2B’s Diversity Program creating a Mentor Protégé Program and other partnerships with several diversity firms.  

Prior to working for B2B, she was director of the International Support Group – Technical Solutions Group for a Software company called SYNAVANT.  Cynthia managed global implementations, global product support, dedicated database management and the design and development of custom applications.  She managed projects and teams across the globe including but not limited to Japan, Austria, Italy, Australia and Brazil. 


Spelman Board of Trustee Mary Lynn DiggsA past president of the NAASC and a third-generation Spelmanite, Ms. Diggs is currently Head Start Collaboration Director for South Carolina Department of Social Services. She holds a master’s degree in management from Webster University. Ms. Diggs, who majored in political science, has been active with the college for many years.

While a student, she served as parliamentarian of the Spelman Student Government Association, and conducted the election of the first student trustee. From 1992 to 1996, she served as a representative to the Spelman College board of trustees in her role as NAASC president. She received the Spelman College Alumnae Achievement Award in 1997, and the NAASC Hall of Fame Award in 2007.
