Kemi Oyewole is a sophomore in the Ethel Waddell Githii Honors Program with majors in economics and mathematics. She is a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman Honor Society, and a 2010 National Achievement Scholar. She has been on the Dean’s List each semester since matriculating at Spelman. She produced an award winning poster presentation, Approaches to Evaluating Economic Development, for Spelman’s 2011 Research Day and was a student presenter at the 2010 American Association for the Advancement of Science, Pacific Division Conference in Ashland, Ore.

Outside of the classroom, Oyewole is an active member of the Spelman Tennis Team. In the 2011, season she was named to the Great South Athletic Conference’s All-Freshman Team. She also serves as a mentor through Spelman’s Peer Assistant Leader program, is active in community service projects in greater Atlanta as a member of Actively Changing Tomorrow through Service, represents the College as a campus Ambassador, and is a summer graduate of the 2011 Institute of Philanthropy and Volunteer Service.

Thoughts on why she chose to serve on the Spelman College board of trustees: Serving as a trustee on the board affords me the opportunity to help sustain the institution that has helped me develop so tremendously as an individual. I feel privileged to take my experiences as a student to contribute to the betterment of the College as a whole.
