  • Spelman College Announces Honorees and Speakers for 2015 Women of Color Conference

    ATLANTA (April 15, 2015) — Dynamic women visionaries who are leading in the field of technology will be honored at the 11th Annual Spelman College Leadership and Women of Color Conference May 13-14, 2015, in Atlanta. At the conference, Spelman will celebrate the impact and influence of exceptional women leaders in the digital era with the conference’s annual Game Changers Awards. A select group of women, counted among those who are leading the advancement of women of color in the digital age, will receive the Legacy of Leadership Award. Also during the conference, an impressive panel of media experts will discuss the new rules needed for responsible reporting in the digital era.

  • Political Commentator and Strategist Donna Brazile to Deliver Spelman College Commencement Address May 17

    ATLANTA (April 14, 2015) -- Donna Brazile, an academic, author, syndicated columnist, television political commentator, and political strategist, has been named Commencement speaker for the Spelman College Class of 2015. Brazile, who will receive an honorary degree, will address more than 475 graduates on Sunday, May 17, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the Georgia International Convention Center.

  • Research Day Showcases Integrated Learning Experience at Spelman College

    ATLANTA (April 7, 2015) – Spelman College’s annual Research Day on April 17 will offer more than 200 Spelman students an opportunity to display their scholarly work and investigative research through oral and poster presentations. Since its inauguration as Science Day in 1989, Research Day has evolved to include presentations by students from all disciplines and majors – encouraging cross collaboration.

  • Spelman College’s Third Annual Wellness Revolution 5K Run/Walk April 11 Promotes Health and Wellness

    ATLANTA (April 3, 2015) -- Spelman College will host its third annual Wellness Revolution 5K Run/Walk Saturday, April 11, 2015, as part of the College’s 134th Founders Day activities. The run/walk is in keeping with the College’s ongoing wellness initiative, which aims to have a direct impact on lowering the percentage of Black women who face serious health challenges.

  • Dr. Mary Schmidt Campbell Named President-elect of Spelman College

    ATLANTA (March 28, 2015) – Today the Board of Trustees of Spelman College announced the selection of Mary Schmidt Campbell, Ph.D., as the College’s 10th president since its founding in 1881. Dr. Campbell assumes the role officially August 1, 2015, having served as dean emerita of the Tisch School of the Arts and university professor in the Department of Art and Public Policy at New York University.

  • Sophomore Lexus Phillips Earns Arcus Foundation Scholarship

    ATLANTA (March 13, 2015) -- Comparative women's studies major and sociology minor Lexus Phillips, C'2017, has been named the first Spelman College student selected to receive an Arcus Foundation scholarship. Established at Spelman College in 2014, the scholarship provides financial assistance to a student who has shown promise to become a strong leader and advocate for the LGBTQ community.

  • Environmental Artist Tyree Guyton Explores 'The Heidelberg Project and the Power of Art'

    ATLANTA (March 13, 2015) -- Environmental artist Tyree Guyton will explore his work through a conversation, screening and performance art installation at Spelman College March 26-27, 2015. Presented by Spelman’s Distinguished Visiting Scholar in the Arts Aku Kadogo, “Connecting the Dots: The Heidelberg Project and the Power of Art” examines Guyton’s renowned 30-year-old outdoor art environment, which transforms rundown areas on Detroit’s eastside into vibrant urban neighborhoods.
