Spelman to Host Undergraduate Psychology Summer Institute

Spelman will host an Undergraduate Psychology Summer Institute as part of an initiative to increase the number of minorities in the profession.

The six-week program, a partnership with Morehouse College and the University of Georgia, is designed to identify psychology majors who have an interest in attending graduate school and provide them with a research-based developmental summer experience. In addition to lab meetings, students will explore specialties, such as counseling psychology, sports psychology, social psychology, industrial organizational and animal behavior.  

danielle dickensThe institute is funded with a $20,000 visionary grant awarded last year to Danielle Dickens, Ph.D., C'2009, Spelman assistant professor of psychology, by the American Psychological Foundation and the Funding Individual Spiritual Health Foundation.

Research mentors will include Dr. Dickens, Morehouse psychology professor Duane Jackson, Ph.D., and University of Georgia psychology professors Rosemary Phelps, Ph.D., and Kecia Thomas, Ph.D.
