Celebration of Excellence awards ceremony honoring Juliana Montgomery, film producer; Yvonne Welbon, film producer and film historian; Tomika DePriest, C’89, television/film producer and executive director of the Spelman College Office of Communications; and Dan Bascelli, coordinator for instructional technology, Spelman College.

The awards ceremony will be followed by a “Conversation with Shola Lynch.” Lynch is an award-winning filmmaker and producer of “Chisholm ’72: Unbought & Unbossed,” a film about Shirley Chisholm, the first female candidate for the office of the president of the United States of America, and “Free Angela and All Political Prisoners,” which documents the life of icon Angela Davis.

10th Annual Spelman College Digital Moving Image Salon Student Documentary Film Showcase

      9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
      This is a student led conference sponsored by the Spelman College English Department and Aechelon Educational Services Inc. which invites mothers/mentors to bring girls ages 7 to 17 to talk about the influence of the media on growth and self-esteem. Adult moms and daughters are also welcome to attend. The conference will take place in the Cosby Academic Center from 9:30 to 3:30pm on Saturday, April 26, 2014.
      The cost is $10 for adults $7 for each girl. Registration is now open and closes Wednesday, April 23rd or when we reach capacity.

Spelman College students enrolled in the English Department’s advanced screenwriting program present a film festival featuring short films about the promises and proclivities of black love. The Alpha Love Film Festival highlights 5-10-minute love stories depicting black love in its many manifestations—from love that heals to love that haunts. All films were self-written, directed, and produced; and star student performers from the Atlanta University Center. Free and open to the public, the festival will include a screening, artist meet and greet, and refreshments.

Math Awareness Month April 2014
Mathematics Awareness Month 2014: Mathematics, Magic, and Mystery. Spelman's mathematics professor, Dr. Colm Mulcahy, helped conceptualize the idea, and is one of the presenters. Learn more about Spelman's involvement.
