Evaluation

Overview

The major task assigned to you in this course will be the development of an electronic portfolio (eFolio) that can be used throughout your time at Spelman.  You will be required to learn basic web design using Microsoft Frontpage in order to incorporate the following elements into your eFolio:

  • resume
  • personal statement
  • videotaped interview
  • excerpts from a personal reflective journal

Purpose

The purpose of developing an eFolio is to encourage you to critically think about why you selected your major and potential career choice.  You will be expected to verbalize your reasoning, based on personal experiences and research into your field of interest, through a series of assignments.  These can be summarized in a written format through a professional resume and a personal statement. The videotaped interview where you speak about your career aspirations will give you experience in interviewing and verbally presenting yourself.  You will also be asked to reflect on your educational and career aspirations from your own perspective through a series of reflective comments placed on the website.

The ultimate goal is for you to formulate an effective means of communicating your experiences, knowledge, positions and values within the context of your educational development through the medium of the eFolio.  It is anticipated that you will build and revise the eFolio over the next few years to include elements that evidence your growth and development.  These might include:

  • research reports/thesis
  • presentations
  • summaries of internship/enrichment experiences
  • other representative works (papers, assignments, lab reports, etc.)

Eventually, you may allow instructors, research mentors, advisors, staff members, other majors, and potential employers to access your eFolio for a variety of purposes such as supplying information for letters of recommendation, departmental reports, and job applications.

So, be creative and let us know who you are and where you want to go!
